Phellos Mountain Route
Overview
Start/End Point
Coastal plain trailhead / Phellos ruins and descent
Duration
4-5 hours
Distance
10km (circuit/loop recommended)
Transport
30-minute drive from base.
Route Description
The trail to ancient Phellos climbs to 950 metres, gaining 600 vertical metres over 4 kilometres. Much of the ascent is on original Lycian stone steps. At the summit acropolis, a 360-degree panorama awaits. The silence here is profound.
The recommended descent follows a different route, passing through abandoned agricultural terraces and several impressive Lycian tombs.
Safety Protocols
- Ankle Support: The ancient stone steps and uneven surfaces demand good ankle support; high-quality hiking boots are essential.
- Altitude Effort: Pace yourself during the long, steep ascent; take regular breaks.
Logistics Tip
Since this route works well as a loop, you can park your car at the lower trailhead and return to it after completing the descent.
